0:00 all right jd here and today i want to 0:01 walk you through my views on coaching 0:04 the value of coaches and what health 0:07 coaches can do for you 0:08 so my realization is the best in the 0:11 world be it sports tom brady tiger woods 0:15 michael jordan or business right jeff 0:17 bezos bill gates investors like warren 0:19 buffett or you know venture capital 0:21 partners they all have coaches 0:23 and in fact they have multiple coaches 0:25 to help them get an edge in order to 0:27 outperform right 0:28 so my story is you know for the longest 0:30 time i didn't think anything was off i 0:32 didn't think i needed help then the 0:33 coach could help right so some time ago 0:35 it was a 0:36 had a top crossover investment fund that 0:38 did public and private growth 0:40 investments in other words we invested 0:42 10 to 50 million investments into high 0:44 growth companies right so the team's 0:45 remarkable mix of highly intelligent 0:47 driven super talented individuals that 0:49 did very well and as a junior guy i 0:51 thought hey look 0:52 you know i want to be like the senior 0:54 guy like the chairman right this dude 0:56 was incredible he was 51 years young at 0:58 the time and he looked like he was in 1:00 his early 30s worked out every day at 4 1:01 30 am 1:02 so i tried to get some inside intel so i 1:04 spoke to his admin assistant and she let 1:07 me know on a secret that 1:09 you know everyone was on some sort of 1:10 bio-optimization or health coaching 1:12 right as the guys view themselves more 1:13 like pro athletes in the sport of 1:14 business and her understanding was about 1:16 optimization among partners like they 1:18 did it for long-term enhancement 1:19 vitality or for a niche right and so my 1:21 problem at the time you know premature 1:23 agreeing is 1:24 knee pain shoulder pain just felt older 1:26 so much time spent at work and a lot of 1:28 stress with the role and i didn't know i 1:31 had a problem or if i needed to start 1:33 anywhere right so i thought about it and 1:35 i needed a kind of fun trusted person 1:36 that had a system that could help me get 1:38 an edge to mentally physically 1:39 motivationally right for me to get to 1:40 the next level and so i came across a 1:42 few functional medicine specialists 1:44 eventually dr ryan 1:46 and so you know taking like a basically 1:48 a high level view zooming out right 1:50 there's a lot of environmental factors 1:51 that cause 1:53 some challenges for all of us right so 1:54 hormone sourcing chemicals more 1:56 prevalent than ever physical activity 1:57 kind of less right 1:59 and doctors really aren't trained in 2:01 kind of the internal functioning you 2:03 know metabolic health hormone balance 2:04 and they push traditional measures which 2:06 don't really move the needle right so 2:08 things that we have in our pantry 2:09 deodorants lotion shampoos um 2:12 grooming products they all have 2:13 endocrine disruptors right hormone 2:15 disruptors right like path lights 2:16 parabens and so forth right and as you 2:18 get older especially for guys your 2:20 igf-1 so your growth hormone levels go 2:22 down testosterone levels go down and so 2:23 what's the answer right 2:25 so there is uh testosterone replacement 2:26 therapy that gets a bad rep because a 2:28 lot of athletes have kind of abused in 2:31 the past they get shredded and strong 2:33 and so you know 2:34 a good example are some ufc fighters and 2:37 famous cyclists but for the average guy 2:39 or 2:40 in general person who has uh low 2:42 testosterone and they do testosterone 2:45 placement therapy plus a growth hormone 2:46 optimization plus 2:48 also other adjunctives right add-on 2:51 therapies they can use it to get where 2:54 they want to be faster to feel younger 2:55 get an edge get a fit easier and kind of 2:57 improve their mood right and so you know 2:59 testosterone overall is really just 10 3:01 probably of your health and overall 3:03 wellness taking like a a holistic 3:06 approach like dr ryan taught me a 3:07 systematic approach with accountability 3:09 our community can can really help you 3:10 right and so if it's looking at the 3:12 behavioral interventions so your meds 3:13 your nutrition sleep stress okay mindset 3:17 um to the fitness aspects and to finally 3:20 the 3:21 internal functions right so therapeutics 3:24 that can help you get 3:25 a 3:26 internal functioning level of 25 years 3:28 long internal rates across testosterone 3:30 thyroid cortisol insulin or estrogen 3:33 and and vitamin d and so forth and then 3:35 some sensitivity and growth hormone 3:36 right and if you take kind of those 3:38 behavioral interventions combined with 3:40 the therapeutics right the holistic 3:41 approach lab testing to make sure you're 3:42 kind of progressing right 3:44 you can really set your mind and body up 3:47 for optimal performance uh give you the 3:49 energy strength and vitality right for 3:51 everything kind of matters right but if 3:52 you're like me by definition i'm super 3:54 skeptical 3:55 right uh you know going to schools 3:58 such as stanford dropping out of 3:59 stanford thinking you know hey i'm 4:01 better than most people 4:02 uh you know and i know what i can do 4:05 it's not the case at all right over time 4:07 you learn as you get smarter there are 4:09 things you don't know 4:10 and if by definition the very best in 4:13 every field are using advisors mentors 4:15 or experts to get ahead 4:17 then the reason why i'm not advancing as 4:19 fast as them puts me at a disadvantage 4:21 and the reason why i'm not advancing as 4:22 fast as i'm and i'm deciding hey look i 4:24 don't even coach i don't need a health 4:25 coach or need any of that 4:27 as me right i'm the reason that i'm not 4:29 succeeding and i'm not 4:31 at you know the next level uh and so for 4:33 me i had to overcome kind of the 4:35 internal barriers uh 4:37 most importantly about hey like do i 4:38 actually need this up and then secondly 4:40 i had to kind of think about costs right 4:42 and so come to various costs and so view 4:44 my health not necessarily as a cost to 4:45 be managed right but as an investment 4:48 much like the best business owners execs 4:50 entrepreneurs do and so you know 4:52 i think what dr kind of helped me 4:54 understand was like the physical cost of 4:55 doing nothing represented a missed 4:57 opportunity uh for me to get next level 4:59 or an opportunity cost right of not 5:01 fulfilling my potential you know and so 5:02 if you think about it if it's like a 5:03 seven-figure big business if it's kind 5:05 of uh you know ten percent lean if it's 5:06 metabolic health if it's a better 5:08 relationship with the kids at a family 5:09 rate you know coaching can help you 5:12 certainly shorten the time 5:14 to get to where you want to be right if 5:16 it's working with an expert and so after 5:18 working with dr ryan i've kind of had an 5:20 epiphany in terms of kind of finding 5:21 coaches for either business mentors for 5:23 entrepreneurship and we are in the 5:26 process of setting up a board that can 5:27 officially and informally help us 5:29 whenever we have a dilemma or problem to 5:31 be addressed right so it sounds humbling 5:33 uh today for me especially since i 5:35 thought i had to have all the answers 5:36 and as a guy you know it's like hey look 5:39 i don't have all the answers 5:41 and so you know i want everyone here 5:44 just to not have the same robot i had 5:45 and if you take anything from this 5:47 okay a health coach or the right one can 5:49 help you kind of unlock your peak 5:51 cognitive physical and metabolic health 5:54 right and if it's not just a health 5:55 coach in general 5:57 the right expert or advisor 5:59 will shorten the time it takes for you 6:01 to get to the next level whatever that 6:03 goal is 6:04 all right and that's all i'll leave 6:06 today
